APP Instructions for Advisers

Using the Online Academic Progress Plan System
Departmental Honors Advisers

The Academic Progress Plan can be reviewed and approved (or disapproved) via an online form at https://ntweb11.ais.msu.edu/hcapp/adviser/applogin.Asp.

  1. On the login screen, enter your MSUNetID and password.

  2. Once you have gained access to the system, click on "Go To Students Academic Progress Plan Menu."

  3. On the next screen you can either set restrictions for the type of list you want or enter a PID or last name to select an individual student. After you define the listing or individual student you want, click on “Last Name” or "PID."

  4. Select the individual student from the resulting list by highlighting the name and clicking on "Student Schedule."

  5. Highlight the appropriate year and version from the list of APPs provided. Students may have several versions of an APP for a given year if they have made modifications. Version numbers appear as suffixes to the year: "20062007-00" for the first version, "20062007-1" for the second version, etc.

  6. Highlight the appropriate year and version, then click on "Student Schedule" to bring up the Academic Progress Plan.

  7. You will see the courses proposed for Summer, Fall, and Spring; any major-area substitutions proposed; and the student’s comments. If the student is with you and you want to make changes to the courses listed for individual terms, click on "Summer," "Fall," or "Spring" to access the data entry page for that term.

  8. Click on "Approved," "Approved With Reservation," or "Not Approved" to indicate your decision and enter any comments in the box provided.

  9. After entering your approval/non-approval and comments click on one of the following:
"Submit" to record your choices permanently and send the APP on to the Honors College,
"Save" if you want to return later to complete your review, or
"Cancel" if you do not want to save your work.

After an Honors College staff adviser has processed the APP, you will be able to see the student's general education courses, Honors College approval status, and any comments made by the Honors College staff adviser as well. Please remember that you are under no obligation to approve an APP for a student with whom you have not spoken in person. You may work out any procedures you feel are appropriate for your advisees.
