"I met John Wilson, faculty member and Dean of the Honors College. He was an excellent intellectual mentor although we were interested in different academic disciplines. I was the first member of my family to attend college, and he was a great role model for a young man who was away from home for the first time and new to campus life. We kept in touch after we both left MSU. and the last time we saw each other was his induction as President of Wells College in New York."

"The ADS weekend was always my favorite part of being in the Honors College/H-STAR. Recruiting students and meeting/touring with hundreds of people was a memorable experience."

  • Stuart Kaltz '07

"An honors course sequence I took in humanities particularly impressed me. We covered a considerable amount of material, integrating concepts from history, philosophy, literature, and art history. The professor also created a strong sense of community in the classroom, which I admired most of all. I also greatly enjoyed an honors ATL (American Thought and Language) class which focused on the role of women in the U.S. I learned much about the achievements of women, and developed a stronger belief in my own abilities."

"What I appreciated the most was being able to have access to a wider variety of class selections and the privilege of priority registration. :)."

"I will never forget the support and encouragement provided by the Honors College Staff throughout my four years at MSU! The hours I spent with Bess German discussing life and stress...the days I spent coming in and out of meetings with Laura Symonds and Dean Jackson-Elmore on scholarships...these are some of my most vivid memories of MSU!."

  • Yvette Efevbera ‘09

"My favorite experiences were living on an honors floor for my first two years at MSU. It was great to be around so many kind and creative people."

  • Sara (Bilkey) Schillio ’02

"Dr. Lauren Harris in the Psychology Department was the best! He was my Honors advisor for my thesis and was an awesome role model! He is a true scholar and was an inspiration to me. In part, due to his inspiration, I eventually became a professor myself. I am now on the faculty at Penn State University."

  • Peter Arnett ‘84

"I think the Professorial Assistantship program was an amazing opportunity. It was incredible to have early access to professors and research---and I haven't met many other people who can say they've done something like it."

  • Mark Nakamoto ‘99

"It wasn't any one class but the wide diversity of classes that I remember, from engineering to world religions."

  • Bert Cholewa ‘81

"Our end of the year dance in the 2nd Floor Bryan Study Lounge lasted until we couldn't dance any more. It was a great way to close out my freshman year."
