THE HONORS OPTION

H-Option work is a key component in the array of enrichment opportunities available to you at Michigan State University. It enables you, with the consent and guidance of participating instructors, to undertake Honors-caliber study--and to receive Honors credit--in many non-Honors courses. Upon completion an "H" is added to your transcript.

The units listed below are authorized to offer H-Options in all courses with exceptions noted. Board-appointed faculty must agree to supervise H-Options. Some units may require students to earn a specific grade to qualify for H-Options; this is noted in parentheses following the name of the unit. It is essential to obtain the agreement of the instructor BEFORE planning to undertake an H-Option. (For a more detailed listing of authorized courses and restrictions, see Honors Option Authorization.)

GRADUATE COURSES

GRAD-COURSE SUBSTITUTION IS ONE OF YOUR KEY PRIVILEGES--DON'T WASTE IT!

Well-selected graduate courses at 500, 800, and 900 levels can make excellent Honors-caliber substitutions for many 300- and 400-level courses. All suitably prepared Honors College members may enroll in most graduate courses, inside and outside their own colleges, with prior approval from their departmental Honors College advisers and from the instructors teaching the courses. Many grad courses taken by Honors College undergraduates are not listed in these pages, but that should not deter you from considering them.

The graduate courses without descriptions are scheduled for 1999-2000 and were recently taken by one or more Honors College students. The Honors College Records Office can put you in touch with some of our students who have firsthand knowledge of them (353-4720).

These courses are merely examples. They may or may not be particularly valuable to you. Browse through the MSU Descriptions of Courses for others that might appeal to you more and be sure to try out your ideas on your Honors adviser(s) before you decide.
