National/International Fellowships and ScholarshipsMichigan State University students have successfully competed for the most prestigious national and international scholarships and fellowships. NIFS helps any interested students to pursue major national and international opportunities by providing information and direct support throughout the fellowship application process for over 20 nationally competitive awards, including the Rhodes, Marshall, Churchill, Gates Cambridge, Mitchell, Truman, Goldwater, and Udall competitions. What is a national or international fellowship or scholarship? These prestigious scholarships are offered by international organizations and governmental entities and are among the most well-known and most lucrative awards available to students. They are also the most competitive and are national or international in scope. Winning one of these awards marks you with a stamp of excellence that can open doors in the future. Some of these awards require nomination by the university and do not accept applications directly from students.
Why compete for a major national/international fellowship or scholarship? Applying for a fellowship is a time-consuming, demanding process. But, the rewards of applying are numerous. First, it is an opportunity to learn about yourself and formulate your personal vision and your plans for the future (education and career). You will also learn to write the kinds of essays you will be writing for future graduate school, scholarship, or job applications. The process also will encourage you to get to know your faculty mentors - the better they know you, the better your letters from them will be! Finally, and most importantly, someone will win these awards – awards that provide funding for undergraduate and graduate education and recognition at a national or international level that may open doors in your future – why not you? NIFS is committed to helping you produce a competitive application while providing exceptional opportunities for learning and personal development.
