Professorial Assistant Information/Instructions

Congratulations on your invitation to the Honors College at Michigan State University! Because of your outstanding potential and academic record, we offer you not only the benefits and challenges provided by the Honors College but also the chance to participate as an undergraduate in significant research opportunities as a Professorial Assistant. In addition to the stipend you will receive should you participate as an Assistant with a faculty mentor (approximately $2300 for the first year of a two-year assistantship), you are guaranteed a minimum of a $2000 annual, renewable, tuition scholarship for Michigan students, or the equivalent of in-state tuition rates for out-of-state students. These award amounts could be affected by other MSU scholarship awards, but you can be assured at least this amount for eight semesters.

Below you will find a link that will take you to a brief questionnaire that will help us in placing you with a mentor for next year. Submitting a questionnaire is NOT a commitment to attend MSU. You have, just as other admitted students do, until May 1 to cancel your spot and request refunds of any paid deposits. Submitting the information requested will greatly aid us in finding a good academic match for you for your assistantship and will also aid the University in correctly reporting scholarship awards later in the year. Many academic units require a returned questionnaire before offering a student a position in their offices. We ask that you submit your initial response within four weeks of receiving this notification so that we may begin to make arrangements for next year should you enroll as a member of Michigan State University's Honors College.

You will find your Personal Identification (PID) on your acceptance letter from MSU. Please fill in all areas on the questionnaire as it will be used by our staff and various academic departments to arrange a mentor for you for your first year. Your responses may be the first impression you make on faculty and academic units, so please give your responses some thoughtful consideration and respond in complete thoughts, checking for spelling, grammar, etc. Individual units from MSU may contact you for specific information that will aid in placement within their unit later in the year. It is our understanding that most students have access to e-mail and the World Wide Web through either school, community or home computers. If you do not have access, please contact Sandra Dean at the Honors College and she will help you make other arrangements for submitting information.

Again, congratulations on your past achievements! We are confident that your invitation to the Honors College and the Professorial Assistant program are just the first of many collegiate achievements yet to come. We look forward to future work with you and wish you the best as you complete your senior year. Do not hesitate to contact us if we can be of further assistance.
